Project Overview:

ALPACA is an all-in-one home monitoring system that tracks energy, water, and heat usage.

 

Our goal is to create a system that is efficient and easy to use for all age groups. We want to empower all our users by providing them the tools necessary to live a more sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle.

• Users struggle with high expenses due to high rent and energy usage.

• The negative impact of global warming on sustainable growth.

• Some users find modern technology complicated and hard to use, especially
the older demographic.

• Lack of awareness towards the benefits of living in a shipping container home

Data collected from surveys and interviews detemined that:
Primary target: Millennials, professionals, families
Secondary target: Environmentalists, contractors, busy families
Age group: 20 - 54
Average household income: $80k - $150k
Target market characteristics: Health-conscious, eco-friendly, tech-savvy
Value Proposition:
We bring value to the current smart home technology market, with our key focus being sustainability. We want to provide our customers with a high-tech, high-quality, innovative home system to make all their daily needs available in one place. Whether that be lighting, heating, cooling, water efficiency, or even security, this system is an all-in-one, user-friendly system designed to make lives easier.

Preliminary Research:

Pain Relievers 

• Allowing users the ability to track energy consumption and save costs.

• Providing a product that will make our users’ lives easier and more sustainable.

• Incorporating simple UI to quickly adjust and control the in-home system by most age groups.

• Pushing toward positive change by raising awareness of living more sustainably.

Competitor Research:

An analysis of competitive products was conducted to determine the qualities and features users find essential. Each team member added their thoughts and ideas to the heatmap using sticky notes and dots.

After Identifying our target group's pain points/needs and conducting the necessary research on our competition, it was time to design a high-fidelity prototype to test our product with users.
